Tsum a Pristine Virgin Valley

Trip overview

The Tsum Valley recently introduced to the foreigners is a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage valley situated in a Trans Himalayan region of Gorkha. Tsum comes from the Tibetan word 'Tsombo', which means vivid.

The Tsum Valley's acquaintance with Tibet, natural beauty and its pristine culture make this trekking unique. Against the majestic backdrop of the Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal and Baudha Himal ranges, this serene Himalayan valley is rich in ancient art, culture, and religion. The local people are mostly of Tibetan origin and speak a unique dialect. Trails are strewn with artistic chortens and lined with Mani walls made of thousands of stone slabs carved with deities and prayers.

The Tsum valley has a long history of Buddhism as Buddhist saint Milarepa is believed to have meditated in the caves of there mountains. Traditionally Tsum valley was a culturally distinct geographical area called 'Tsum Tso Chuksum', which means thirteen provinces ruled as a single territory. The ancient remains of the Tsum Kingdom are still visible today. Because of its remoteness and inaccessibility, this sacred valley and its people have been bypassed by mainstream development for centuries so the unique culture of this valley has remained intact till now.

It was our second time in Nepal. We asked Abir to give some idea about our second trip in Nepal and he suggested a fantastic trek recently opened in the Manaslu area. It was very wise choice from the agency to send us to the non-touristic and newly opened trekking route of Tsum valley. We only met 3 other trekking groups and we had a unique opportunity to meet friendly Nepalese farmers in the remote and high area of Manaslu. The kids seemed to enjoy our evening discussion around the camp. Everything in the group was perfect. Our cook Pemba prepared a variety of food including grilled chicken. Thank you for everything, from the exceptional landscape, the wonderful people and the unforgettable moments. All the best to Holiday Mountain Treks and wish everyone use this company for their great trekking trip in Nepal.
