Mera peak climbing trip in Nepal
Mera peak and climbing information-Mera Peak 6654m altitude is one of the most popular highest trekking peaks in Nepal. The peak is another side of the main trail to Mt. Everest Base Camp and Gokyo lake standing to the south of Mt. Everest peak just above the Hinku and Hongu valleys. The Mera peak lies in the remote and rocky section in the Mt. Everest region. Mr. J.O.M. Roberts and Sen Tenzing made the first successful ascent of Mera Peak on 20 May 1953. Normally climbers use this route but there ae few other route but require crossing very high and difficult passes. This leads to a true mountaineering experience. In the end, all efforts and hard work is paid off with spectacular scenery as Mera provides one of the finest viewpoints in Nepal.
The trail goes either from Lukla or Kharikhola if going from Jiri or Phaplu. The walk to the peak and its summit offers the best panoramic views of the highest peaks including Kangchenjunga, Makalu, and Baruntse in the east and the peaks of Cho-Oyu, Ama Dablam and Kangtega to the west. Everest can be viewed to the north over the massive unclimbed south face of Lhotse and the Nuptse/Lhotse ridge. The Mera peak is not real technical demanding peak but obviously need rock/ice previous climbing experience. When health and weather condition is a favorable, normally it takes two days to climb from base Camp to sumit and back to base camp.
Day 1 : Welcome to Kathmandu 1350m
Arrive in Kathmandu airport. You'll be met at the airport by our representative and transfer to hotel.
Day 2:Kathmandu 1350m
Visit the sights of Kathmandu valley with a tour guide. You will be visiting temples, stupas, secret site, architecture and cultural things.
Day 3:Fly to Lukla 2800m 35 mints
Take an early morning flight to Lukla and rest of the day is spent here to acclimatize your body to this altitude and preparation for the expedition.
Day 4:Trek to Kharka Thang 4300m
Trek starts ascending to the Kalo Himal Ridge with prayer flag further to the main Zatrwa La 4600m, which separates the Khumbu from the Hinku Valley the a short descend aside east of the Hinku Valley and reach to the camp site.
Day 5:Thulo Dhunga 3810m
The trail continue follows Hinku valley, with impressive views of the south face of Mera Peak through pine and rhododendron forest and stunning views of Kusum Kangguru and Peak 43
Day 6:Gothe 4350m
A gentle up and down hill climbs through the forest, small settlements and mountain views with impressive surroundings.
Day 7:Gothe 4350m
A rest day is spent here that will further aid well acclimatisation. Hike around the camp site or climbing up onto the Kusum Kanguru peak 4900m.
Day 9:Khare 4720m
A gradual climb leads to Kharka Thang passing some up rocky hill on the way.
Day 10:Trek to Khare 5025m
A short day walk brings to Khare with the huge north face of Mera and the peaks of the Hinku Shar Glacier just below the Mera La.
Day 12:Rest day
Rest day for acclimatisation or snow climbing training on the west side of the Hinku Nup Glaciers at 5500m with stunning views of Mera La and Mera Peak. Perhapes, the sherpas may carry loads to the Mera La and see the trail condition.
Day 13:Mera La 5400m
The trail first crosses the rocks then snow and ice seen glacier flowing down from the Mera La Camp at glacier terrain.
Day 14:Climb to High Camp 5800m.
After a short day climb; establish high camp at 5800m and get final preparation of the next day summit attempt.
Day 15:Summit 6476m 7-9 hrs and back to Mera La
Early morning you start your summit day with rope and ice climbing to reach the summit. Attempt the summit and get the magnificent views of Mt. Everest (8,848m/29,029ft), Cho-Oyu (8,201m/26,906ft), Lhotse (8,516m/27,940ft), Makalu (8,463m/27,766ft), Kangchenjunga (8,586m/28,169ft), Nuptse (7,855m/25,770ft), Lubuche (6,145m/20,160ft), Chamlang (7,319m/24,013ft) are spectacular from the summit. You then retrace your steps to Mera La.
Day 16:Khare 5025m.
A gentle down and up hill walk brings to the beautiful village of Khare.
Day 17:Thang Nak
The trail descends aside the valley through the same trail.
Day 18:Trek to Kharka Thang
The trail again ascends passing lush forest on the west side of the Hinku Valley, the a gentle down hill until the flat meadow of Khark Thang
Day 19:Trek to Lukla
The trail climbs short then descends crossing some easy passes. We put you into the hotel so that you can enjoy hot shower and cold beer with warm dining hall.
Day 20:Fly to Kathmandu
We take a morning flight to Kathmandu. Arrive and transfer to hotel.
A free day for your own activities. Evening, enjoy a fare dinner with live cultural program hoisted by the company.
If you have time and are interested for other adventure like white water rating, wild life safari or any other activities can extend your holiday or transfer to airport and fly back to sweet home.

Introduction and trip briefing
On our all tours, trek, expeditions and other adventures, we give a short brief about the trip in Kathmandu on the same day of your arrival and introduce your trip leader and team members. At the mean time, we provide an opportunity for individuals to ask questions if any about the trip.
Meals during Mera peak climbing
Hygienic and freshly cook meals on full board basis will be provided both on trekking and climbing sections. We provide high level of balance diet, hygiene and safety meals three times in a day. Dishes we prepare are normally Nepali, Tibetan/Sherpa, Indian, Continental and Italian.

Best time for Mera peak climbing
The best times are spring (March –May) and autumn (Sep - Nov). Trekking and climbing can be arranged in winter and monsoon but we do not follow regular itinerary as the high trails are not possible to walk on.
Things to know: Our first concern is your safety while traveling with Holiday Mountain Treks. Please be informed that your trek leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Our every effort will be made for a safely completion of the planned itinerary, however as this is adventure travel into the remote mountain region, we cannot guarantee it! Other factor like weather conditions, the health of member can be the reason to changes the itinerary. In such a case, please be prepared to be flexible. Your trek guide will accompany you on all scheduled activities and you will have free time to pursue your own interests too. Your trek guide will assist you with information about your options but please be informed that any additional activities you undertake are not part of our itinerary.
We suggest and t is a condition of traveling with us that you must be fully insured, including air rescue services and all medical expenses. You decide and choose what amount and types of is insurance is suitable for your trip nature as some does buy cancellation and only for certain period of time.
Mera peak trek and climb is a high altitude and high pass trek /climb, the itinerary is planned with a high level of minimization of awareness of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Going up too fast causes a medical condition serious enough to be not completed the trek. Walking up to Mera-La and a day rest allow us sufficient time for acclimatization for a successful ascent of the peak. The trek itself and Mera peak climb is high altitude trip so it requires days of acclimatization so the itinerary is gradually ascending getting up these heights where you expect less oxygen. A sensible well planning is therefore required to minimize the risk of AMS. We request you to consult doctor of the heart, lungs or blood diseases. Some of the symptoms of AMS are fever, mild headaches, loss of appetite or stomach disorder.

Good care of porters: Believing that the porters are important and impossible to complete the trip. We do not allow porters to carry exceeding 20 kgs in tea-house and 30kgs weight in camping trek. It is because of human being respect, their rights and against any exploitation on it's operation. We provide good health insurance, good equipments, working training and of course good pay with lots of encouragements. We are working with porters progress of Nepal and other organizations concerning about the porters.

A successful trek/climb requirement
As other adventure trip, Mera peak trek/climb also requires previous experience of trekking and ice/rock climb, sound health & fitness, experience for using Ice axe and crampons, ascending/descending. Of course there will be some Ice climbing course at the base camp make you skillful of using ropes, ice pick, harness, crampons and other essential gears. Pisang peak climb usually require maximum 10hrs of walking and average 4-8 hrs in a day; You should be prepared 7-10 Km of walking or jugging exercise everyday at least 2 months before your trip starts. With lot of willpower, strong determination, reasonable fitness in health and hiking experience make surer of your successful trip. However medical and evacuation expenses are your responsibility so we suggest you to consult your doctor for medical requirements. To ensure for a safety and successful trek; we will provide one trek leader, one assistance leader on every group trek so that if in case one get sick, it would not be canceled the trek and run as plan as in itinerary.
