Api Himal (7,132m),is the highest peak in Nepal's Far-West region, nestled in the Darchula district. Api Himal Base Camp trek which starts and ends at Makarighad in Darchula, Legend has said it that at the base of Api Himal, the saint Chamaliya meditated for a long time. When he felt thirsty, the Lord granted him a spring, now known as the Chaulani River. Locals share tales of the river's origin, attributing it to tree roots called Chauleu, naming it Chaulani Nadi. Hindu mythology claims it comes from Lord Shiva's hair, known as Charmawoti Nadi, at a place called Shivadham. During the Shukla Purnima of the Shrawan month, Surma Bhawani is worshipped at Surma Sarover, followed by a week-long fair, drawing devotees from Darchula, Bajhang, and nearby districts. It's believed to cleanse sins for those who can't visit Mansarover.
This trek unfolds a breathtaking Himalayan panorama, showcasing peaks like Kap Chuli (6680 m), Nampa (6611 m)-I, II & III, Bobaya Chuli (6808 m), Jethi-Bahurani (6850 m).
