The Mount Kailash- Gurla Mandhata Parvat
Mount Kailash 6640m is a sacred mountain in Ngari Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region of China located in the Gangdise Shan mountain range of the Transhimalaya, in the western part of the Tibetan Plateau close to Manasarovar and Rakshastal lakes and between China, India and Nepal.
In Buddhism it is called Mountain Kang Rimpoche, ‘The Precious One of Glacial Snow’ and local Tibetan call it Tise. They consider this to be the resting place of Buddha Demchok and the place where the intimidating battle between Milarepa and Naro Bonchung took place.
Mount Kailash is the most renowned and divine place visited by devotees from around world. It is an important religious sacred destination for many religions like Jainism, Buddhism, Bon religion, Hinduism and holds different significance to different religions just like the various names it has. For Hindus, Mount Kailash is the sacred abode of Lord Shiva, ‘The God of Destruction’ of evil and sorrow. Hindus consider this mountain as eternal heaven and the center of soul and spirituality. As the legend has it, Lord Shiva sits at the top of Mt. Kailash meditating and practicing yoga. The mountain is assumed to be the center of the world and the four rivers flowing through Kailash divide the world into four different regions. The walls of this cave have many carvings related to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Mount Kailash Kora
The Mt. Kailash Kora a sacred 52 kilometers clockwise circumambulation 3 days trek starting from Darchen with an average altitude above 4,300 meters crossing challenging Dolma La Pass (5,630m–5,636m). The Kora is definitely hard and challenging but inner power of pilgrimage and stunning views of the mountain's faces, monasteries, Rivers and the nearby Manasarovar Lake are the best rewards.
The lake Manasarovar
Lake Manasarovar, located in Tibet at 4,590 meters (15,060 ft) near Mount Kailash, is one of the highest sacred freshwater lake in the world covering 320 sq km with about 90m depth. Lake Manasarovar revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon followers considering a symbol of purity and a major pilgrimage site for cleansing sins and spiritual enlightenment.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1 : Drive from Kathmandu to Rasuwagadi 2500m 160kms-Kerung 2700m and 7-8hrs
Start the journey early in the morning from Kathmandu through picturesque landscapes of the Trishuli River valley, small villages and terraced fields. Reach Rasuwagadhi at the Nepal-China border for customs and immigration formalities. After crossing the border, continue further rive to Kerung, a small Tibetan town. O/N Guest House
Day 2 : Rest day for acclimatisation
Today is rest day for good acclimatisation in Kerung before further high altitude driving to Saga. Of course it is also possible to look around the Kerung in the afternoon. O/N Guest House
Day 3 : Drive to Saga 4650m via Pelku Lake 300kms and 7-9hrs
It is long but exciting driving on the desert terrain enjoying past nomad camps and sheep and yak herds, beautiful views of Gaurishankar, Shishapangma and Langtang Himal through Khunmen Tso, Sinling, Karru Ongchen, Peiku tso Lake and finally cross Brahmaputra river ( “Yarling Tsangpo” in Tibetan ) to reach Saga. Day 4 : Drive to Lake Manasarovar 4500m 370kms and 7hrs
Driving starts with the distance mountains through small town of Zhongba before reaching to Paryang offering the first view of Mt Kailash and further several hours of drive brings an approach the serene and sacred lake Manasarovar with turquoise complexion - surrounded by Mt Kailash, Mt. Gurula-Mandata and Lake Rakchyas. O/N Guest House.
Day 5 : Drive to Darchen 4670m 45kms and 2hrs
Morning spend sometimes at the shores of the sacred Lake Manasarovar and take holy bath then start driving which enters the semi-nomadic regions of Tibet's far west through the authentic Tibetan landscapes the biggest and highest plateau in the world along the Yarlung Tsampo river, also known as the Brahmaputra in India, then arrive to little town of Darchen, nestled at the foot of Mount Kailash, where the final preparation is done for upcoming trek around the holy Mt. Kailash.the Kora. Overnight in Darchen the preparation place for the upcoming trek around the holy Mt. Kailash. O/N Guest House.
Day 6 : Trek to Dirapuk 5000m 18kms and 3-4hrs
Start with short drive of first day trek Kailash Kora (making circle) with a gentle ascent enjoying views of the southwest face of Kailash while entering the valley of the Gods along the Lha Chu River and finally reach Dirapuk. It is one of the exciting days walking along the beautiful rocky cliffs and waterfalls with some clouds in the clear blue sky. O/N Guest House.
Day 7 : Trek to Zuthul Puk 4760m 19kms and 8-9hrs
Start second day trek about 4 hours climb with the main goal to carefully approach the wall of Kailash up to the Gangjam glacier of Dolma La pass at 5670m. When reaching the top, just do the holiest offering and sit down for meditation to feel as in heaven. It is hardest but Holiest day of the Kailash Kora trek, cross Dolma La pass at 5670 m. From here the descent initially steep then becomes a comfortable walk until arriving at Zuthul Puk where the great ascetic Milerappa is supposed to have performed miracles. O/N Guest House.
Day 8 : Trek to Darchen 4670m 16kms and 3-4hrs
The final day of the Kailash Kora trek is a mere formality compared to what was experienced the previous days. A gentle descent walking for 3-4 hours which completes the Kora around Mt. Kailash with the achieve of enlightenment then drive further to Saga. O/N Guest House.
Day 9 : Drive to Kerung 2700m 290kms and 7-8hrs
After breakfast; start to drive back through the same road to Kerung. O/N Guest House.
Day 10 : Drive to Kathmandu 1300m 165kms and 7-8hrs
Today is the final day of the journey which starts with a short drive to Nepal Tibet border and complete the immigration formalities then drive further to Kathmandu.
