Tamang heritage trek around langtang Rasuwa in Nepal

Rasuwa Tamang heritage trekking trail is a new and attractive trekking destination for a cultural experience, a few years back the Tamang Heritage trail in Langtang, Rasuwa has been found one of the best trekking routes near about 120km north of Kathmandu an unparalleled combination of natural beauty and cultural riches. Most of the parts of the area are untouched by roads; the area offers a life unfolding experience.

The main inhabitants here are Tamang and Sherpa, whose origin and culture remains hundreds of years back. The people, craftsmanship, dress, traditionally built stone houses, and beautifully carved wooden porches reflect the solitude and the serenity of the Himalayan scenery making this an ideal model trekking destination in Nepal. Historical places like Rasuwagadi and religious attractions like Tatopani, Parbati Kunda, etc are the additional features of this new route. Trekking here is supposed to be home-staying a unique experience or a tented camp benefiting and promoting the locals.

Tamang Heritage trek to Rasuwa/Langtang starts with a drive to Dhunche and further to Syabrubensi and finally goes to Briddim. The route ranges from 1467m altitude of 3165m and has a variety of tropical, subtropical, temperate, and sub-alpine vegetation a home of allusive snow leopards and red pandas, Nepal community homestay village trek, Rasuwagadhi Tamang heritage trekking trail, itinerary, map, cost and a cultural/religious/historical experience trek, trekking to new trekking area of Nepal.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival at Kathmandu.

Arrive at Kathmandu airport and meet our office representative then transfer to hotel. Evening meet the trekking staff and get briefing about the trek.

Day 2 : Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi 1540m 117km and 7-8 hrs.

Early morning drive in the mix of smooth roads and a few bumpy stretches, through beautiful terraced fields, green hills, and tiny villages with first views of Langtang and Ganesh Himal. After clearing the National Park check post at Dhunche; drive further down through narrow road to Syabru Besi aside of the Trishuli River.

Day 3 : Trek from Syabru Besi to Gatlang 250m 15km and 5-6 hrs.

After breakfast trek starts with gentle climbs through serene forests, local villages with beautiful views of peaceful hills and reach Gatlang a traditional Tamang village set high on a hillside among terraced fields with Tamang monastery and beautiful Parvati Kunda Lake.

Day 4 : Trek from Gatlang to Tatopani 2595m 13km and 5-6 hrs.

After breakfast a scenic trek starts downhill passing through Mani walls, Chortens, peaceful forests and beautiful Chilime village aside Bhotekoshi River. Cross the suspension bridge and trek uphill to reach Gonggang village then further trek to Tatopani where natural hot springs await for soaking, relax and muscles unwind and of course enjoy view of Langtang range and Ganesh Himal. 

Day 5 : Trek from Tatopani to Thuman 2350m 10km and 4-5 hrs.

After breakfast start trekking uphill through beautiful scenery all the way to Nagthali Dada lies in a high open grassland offering a quiet hilltop viewpoint to see Ganesh Himal and other panoramic snow capped mountains to the north. From here trek downhill to reach Thuman a Tamang village heavily influenced by Tibetan with ancient monasteries and houses adorned with rich wood engravings.

Day 6 : Trek from Thuman to Timure 1765m 9km and 4-5 hrs.

After breakfast trek downhill to Bhote Koshi River and follow a scenic riverside trail to Timure which is an old trade post near the Tibetan border. Late afternoon visit Rasuwa Fort, built in 1855 and locals around the village.  

Day 7 : Trek from Timure to Briddim 2240m 9km and 5-6 hrs.

After breakfast trek downhill to Linglin village then uphill passing through rhododendron forests and meadows and reach Briddim, another Tibetan influenced Tamang village located in the bosom of the Langtang Himal with traditional home stays where the most of the houses here are made up of stone and have roofs of split shake and beautiful scenery surroundings

Day 8 : Excursion around in Briddim

It is a calm day not involving much walking but interesting day visiting local monastery of Dukcha Gomba that is chosen as a sacred site by a great Tibetan lama guru Ringpoche and ChuklaKhnaga Gomba and sites around the village.

Day 9 : Trek from Briddim to Syabru Besi 1700m 8km and 4-5 hrs.

After breakfast trek down following Bhote Koshi River through lush rhododendron forests, soaking in the trail's quiet beauty with the views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, paddy and corn fields and finally reach Syabru Besi where trek is ended.

Day 10 : Drive from Syabru Besi to Kathmandu 1340m 117km and 6-7 hrs.

After breakfast, drive back through the same road and reach Kathmandu. 


Day 11 : Kathmandu

A relax day and do personal things like souvenir shopping or visit some temples.  Evening enjoy a farewell dinner with live cultural program in typical Nepali restaurant.


Day 12 : Departure

Transfer to airport and fly back to sweet home.
